My First Challenge! I’ve decided to join Becky of Becky’s Book Reviews’s “It’s the End of the World” challenge. The point, to read at least four apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic books by the beginning of October. This is not a genre that I particularly like but there are a lot of great teen books out there on the subject and I’m hoping that this will force me to read some great titles I normally would have passed on.
So, here’s what I’m going to read:
- The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau
- Life as we Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer
- Little Brother by Cory Doctorow
- The Other Side of the Island by Allegra Goodman
- Uglies by Scott Westerfeld
- How I Live Now by Meg Rosoff

I just read The Road by Cormac McCarthy which I know is at least a post-apocalyptic novel. But what about Shade’s Children by Garth Nix? Does that count?

Did you know you don’t need to buy, or even check out Cory Doctorow’s book, Little Brother? You can download it for free from Cory’s website.

Ack, I’m not a good person to ask! Sorry! You might want to check with Becky. I found all my books from one article, pretty much — here’s the link. I didn’t even realize Uglies by Westerfeld was considered post-apocalyptic until I read the article.
Based on my response to your questions, I think this challenge will be very, very good for me. :)

I will definitely have to check that out. Thanks for the heads up!
